What is buttocks augmentation?

A butt augmentation is one of many body contouring procedures available. It is essentially lifting, adding volume and/or contouring the shape of the buttocks. Buttock lifts can now be done both surgically and non surgically. There are a few different treatment options you have available to you to help achieve the results you are looking for. Those procedures include the Brazillian butt lift, butt augmentation with silicone implants, dermal filler, and biostimulators.

What is the difference between a surgical and non-surgical Butt Lift?

Today, there are multiple ways you can achieve butt lift results both surgically and non-surgically. The most popular is a Brazilian butt lift, also known as a BBL. A Brazilian butt lift is a surgical procedure done by plastic surgeons where excess fat is removed from one area of the body using liposuction and then injected to buttock area to get the desired shape and size. The fat for these procedures is typically removed from the hips, thighs, lower abdomen. Another surgical butt lift procedure is placing silicone implants in the buttocks to add volume and lift the area. With BBL’s available, this surgical procedure has become less popular over the years.

More recently, a non surgical butt lift procedure has become very popular known as the Sculptra butt lift. This injectable treatment can be done in office and is a more natural way of adding volume to and lifting the gluteal area. Other injectables such as Radiesse and Bellafill are also being used to do non-surgical butt lifts.

Sculptra Butt Lift

Sculptra is actually not a filler, but a biostimulant that promotes collagen production naturally in the area injected including the buttocks. To achieve optimal results with a Sculptra butt lift, it is recommended to do a series of 3 treatments spaced 1-3 months apart. Most patients will require a minimum of 8 vials (4 per side) to see the desired results. Sculptra does not give immediate results like dermal fillers would. Instead, you will gradually see the area get more plump over a 6 week period as more collagen is stimulated. Sculptra injections are an excellent option to help improve the appearance of loose skin and volume loss. One of the main benefits of Sculptra is that it is FDA approved to last about 2 years after the initial injection. Another benefit is that the procedure is usually less than an hour long and only topical anesthetic is used.

What is Radiesse?

What makes Radiesse different from other injectables is what it is made of. Most fillers are made from hyaluronic acids (HA), but Radiesse is made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), which gives the substance a stiffer feel and provides more support as a filler. Radiesse is a great option for a non-surgical butt lift and will give you immediate results. Some injectors like to also combine Sculptra and Radiesse when doing a non surgical butt lift for ultimate results.

What is Bellafill?

Bellafill, similar to Sculptra, is a biostimulant that stimulates collagen in the area it is injected into. With Bellafill, you do see immediate results as well as an improvement overtime. One of the main benefits is that it is FDA approved to last 5 years from the initial injection. It is another great option to add volume to the buttock area and improve fine lines and crepey skin.

How long does it take to recover from a non-surgical buttock augmentation?

Fortunately, non-surgical buttock augmentations have very little recovery time in the healing process. Similar to other injectable treatments, patients need to refrain from any strenuous physical activity, like working out, for the first 24 hours. We do recommend avoiding blood thinners prior to your appointment to minimize the risk of bruising and swelling; however, it is possible you may still have bruising and swelling for up to two weeks post injection. After the initial 24 hours, patients may resume normal activities.

Who is a good candidate?

There are many reasons why someone might want a non surgical butt augmentation – sagging skin due to age, excess skin due to weight fluctuations. Some people may also want to enhance the shape of their buttocks. If you are thinking about any sort of buttock augmentation, it is best to have a consultation with your provider to determine what is best to achieve the results you are looking for.
