Ultherapy harnesses the power of ultrasound to transform the brow, chin, neck and chest. Ultrasound, has been used for more than 50 years—and Ultherapy has been established as effective in clinical studies and in over a million treatments worldwide. Ultherapy relies on ultrasound therapy to deliver its collagen-boosting treatment. Ultherapy also incorporates traditional ultrasound imaging, which allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue they are treating, ensuring the treatment energy is delivered to where it will be most beneficial.

How Does Ultherapy Work?

Ultherapy® uses microfocused ultrasound to generate a thermal effect under the layers of skin. This effect essentially jump-starts your body’s own process to create fresh, new collagen. The majority of patients only need one treatment; however, some may benefit from more than one treatment, depending on how much skin laxity they have and their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and the collagen-building process. Follow-up Ultherapy treatments each year may help maintain results.

Before Your Ultherapy Treatment

The first thing you will want to do is schedule a one-on-one consultation with our certified practitioners at DHH Med Spa by contacting our office, in Scottsdale. During this consultation session, we will address your concerns, assess your skin and determine if you are a candidate for the treatment. Once you book your Ultherapy® Scottsdale procedure, you won’t need to follow any special preparations or skincare regimens in advance of the treatment. Prior to treatment we will use a topical numbing agent to help relieve any discomfort. To enhance your comfort, we may recommend that you take an over-the-counter or prescribed medication before the treatment.

During Your Ultherapy Treatment

After prepping the skin and identifying the specific areas to be treated, we will apply the ultrasound gel and place the smooth treatment applicator against your skin. Next, we will use Ultherapy’s imaging to first see deep within the skin to determine optimal placement of the treatment energy, and then deliver the focused ultrasound energy beneath the skin’s surface. During the treatment delivery, you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels can vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the energy is being delivered. The length of your ultherapy treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face* and neck procedure typically takes 90 minutes, while a chest procedures takes approximately 30 minutes.

After Your Ultherapy Treatment

With Ultherapy, there is no recovery or downtime! Many patients can return to their normal activities immediately after your procedure without any post-treatment restrictions or requirements. Possible side effects include your skin appearing flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some patients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature. Other, less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising, pain or numbness on small areas of skin. As with any medical procedure, there is the possibility for other rare effects, which we will review with you as a patient at our practice.

How Long Does Ultherapy Last?

Since the procedure stimulates a patients own collagen production, how long the results last depends on the individual. While results appear over two to three months, they can last one to two years. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but the individual’s natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the skin. Future touch-up treatments can help provide the patient more control over the aging process, which varies by individual.

Can Ultherapy be used on the Body?

This skin tightening procedure is FDA for the face, neck and décolletage. Several other areas have been studied for concerns such as sagging, loose skin. For tightening in the buttocks, thighs or arms Ultherapy may be used. As always contact your provider’s office to further discuss your concerns for lifting and tightening.
